School Banking at Walberta Park School

During the month of October, Walberta Park teamed up with Empower Federal Credit Union to provide students with the opportunity to open a savings account and learn the importance of saving money. Every other week, a representative of the credit union comes to Walberta to accept student deposits into their accounts. The children have loved the chance to watch their accounts grow. Sometimes the teller brings along the program’s mascot, Dollar Dog, and the kids love giving him a hug or a high 2 students (next year when the district starts full day kindergarten, we will add K to the program).

Rockets Launch Again!

The 6th grade has spent a good portion of the fall learning about the concepts of energy and space. They learned about gravity, weightlessness, inertia, potential and kinetic energy, just to name a few. A culminating activity and student favorite is to actually apply these concepts by building and launching their very own rocket. On October 28, a beautiful day, the entire grade traveled to Santaro Park for this awesome experience which included homeroom.

The Waterloo Dig Pink Volleyball Tournament in October. The members of the team wore pink jerseys purchased by an anonymous donor in memory of Westhill parent, Jean  round before being eliminated. Senior captain, Carrie Griffo, earned the sportsmanship award. Proceeds from various sales during the tournament were donated to the American Cancer Society.
